SMASH Homebrewing Competition 2026

Rules:

1. This competition is open to everyone over 18 years of age, worldwide.
2. Only one style of beer is accepted at this competition,  X5 – New Zealand Pilsner, according to BJCP 2021 guidelines.
3. Because this is a SMASH (single malt and single hop) competition, only one malt and one hop can be used. No modifications to the malt is permitted (example additional malt roasting and simillar, decoction is allowed)! We determine the malt and hop for each beer style. 
4. Ingredients for X5 – New Zealand Pilsner:
   Pilsner malt,
   Nelson Sauvin hops,
   and any yeast suitable for the style.
5. You can use any type and brand of pilsner malt, any type and brand of Nelson Sauvin hops, (no sugars or adjuncts!). 
6. People can enter a maximum of 1 beer per category with a maximum of 1 entry total. 
7. 3 bottles or cans for the entry must be supplied in either 330 or 500 ml sizes. ONLY these sizes will be accepted. You can mix and match if needed, entering some bottles as 330 ml and some as 500 ml. 3 bottles MUST be entered.
8. Beer must be packaged in bottles or cans with no markings of any kind. No raised glass, no logos, no labels, no marks on the cap. If the cap has marks on it, black them out with a marker before entering. No plastic bottles permited.
   Each beer must have a bottle ID form attached to it with a rubber band. Do NOT use tape or glue, DO NOT use metal wire to attach the form, ONLY a rubber band. We recomend putting the bottle ID in a small plastic bag so it doesn't get wet. 
9. Each entrant must register their beers online.
   Online registration will be open from 01.03.2026. on: https://smash-homebrew.com.hr/Registration/index.php?section=register&go=entrant
   Bottle ID forms MUST be printed out from the registration system. Registration will close on 30.03.2026.
10. The deadline for delivery is 08.05.2026. All entries must be received by 15:00 CEST on that day.
    For people residing inside of Croatia, no late entries will be allowed. No exceptions.
    For people traveling long distances to attend the show from outside of the country, they can get special permission to hand in their entries the day before the competition, 15.05.2026., by 20:00 CEST, but they must ask for permission ahead of time and get approval.  If they do not get this approval, their entries will not be processed. To ask for permission for late entry, please e-mail us at smash.homebrew@gmail.com 
11. No beers will be accepted into the competition that were produced by a commercial brewery. This includes very small, home based breweries that sell their beers commercially, even on a small scale. No exceptions.
12. Beers must be delivered to Tap B Craft Brewery & Brewpub, Ulica Dinka Šimunovića 14 21000 Split, Croatia by 08.05.2026. 15:00 CEST. Fees must be paid in advance or they will not be accepted.
13. Judges will judge the beers against the category in which they are entered, as per BJCP 2021 guidelines. So if a beer is outside its style, don't be surprised if you get a very, very low score even if the beer is good.
14. The entry fee for each entry is 50 euros (50€). No other currency will be accepted. Fees can be paid by bank transfer or in person, no later than 07.04.2026. All unpaid entries will be deleted after that date and new registrations may open. Payment details will be e-mailed upon registration of beers. No refunds! 
15. This competition is registered with the BJCP and is listed in their competition calendar. We will follow that style of judging. Measures are in place to ensure fair and anonymous judging. All judges will have had sensory training with a Sensory Flavor Kit. Judges cannot judge in categories in which they are entered. We will do blind judging. Judges will not know whose beer they are judging, so don't be shy about entering a beer that you need feedback on. Competition is a good way to get a critique of your beer that can help you improve as a brewer. Nobody will know about your scoresheets unless you tell them.
16. Judges can register at https://smash-homebrew.com.hr/Registration/index.php?section=register&go=judge from 01.03.2026. to 08.05.2026.
17. Competitors can view their scores online some time after the competition by logging into the competition website and viewing their entries. After the competition, scoresheets will be scanned and e-mailed to each competitor. This process takes some time, though, so please be patient. It may take few weeks.
18. The winners will be chosen in final rounds by the most experienced judges. From each judging table the best entries are promoted to the final round. There they are evaluated again for final results, but without re-adjusting the scores on the scoresheets.
19. Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category and a plaque for 1st place. There will be additional prizes awarded, but note that items will only be shipped at your expense.

21. Location for personal delivery and shipping of entries:
    Tap B Craft Brewery & Brewpub, Ulica Dinka Šimunovića 14 21000 Split, Croatia. Please check for working hours if delivering personally. Note that the delivery location is different from the awards location, please don't deliver the beers to Plan B, because there's no one to admit them there and they'll probably not be judged!
    (Please deliver the beers in cardboard boxes, not plastic bags).

SMASH Homebrewing Competition 2026
Pravila:

1. Ovo natjecanje je otvoreno za sve osobe starije od 18 godina, diljem svijeta.
2. Na ovom natjecanju prihvaćaju se samo dva stila piva,  X5 – Novo Zelandski pils, prema smjernicama BJCP 2021.
3. Budući da je ovo SMASH (single malt and single hop) natjecanje, mogu se koristiti samo jedan slad i jedan hmelj. Nikakve izmjene na sladu nisu dopuštene (npr. dodatno pečenje slada i slično, dekokcija je dozvoljena)! Mi određujemo slad i hmelj za svaki stil piva.
4. Sastojci za X5 – Novo Zelandski pils:
   Pilsner slad,
   Nelson Sauvin hmelj, 
   i bilo koji kvasac prikladan za stil.
5. Možete koristiti bilo koji tip i marku pilsner slada, bilo koji tip i marku Nelson Sauvin hmelja (bez šećera ili drugih dodataka!)
6. Ljudi mogu prijaviti najviše 1 pivo po kategoriji s maksimalno 1 prijavom ukupno.
7. 3 boce ili limenke od prijave moraju biti isporučene u veličinama od 330 ili 500 ml. SAMO ove veličine će biti prihvaćene. Možete miješati i kombinirati, ako je potrebno, boce od 330 ml i od 500 ml. OBAVEZNO se šalju 3 boce ili limenke.
8. Pivo mora biti pakirano u boce ili limenke bez ikakvih oznaka. Bez izdignutog stakla, bez logotipa, bez etiketa, bez oznaka na čepu. Ako čep ima oznake, zacrnite ih markerom prije slanja. Plastične boce nisu dozvoljene.
   Svako pivo mora imati identifikacijski obrazac za bocu pričvršćen gumicom. NEMOJTE koristiti traku ili ljepilo, NEMOJTE koristiti metalnu žicu za pričvršćivanje obrasca, SAMO gumicu. Preporučamo da obrazac stavite u malu plastičnu vrećicu kako se ne bi smočila.
9. Svaki sudionik mora svoje pive prijavit online.
   Online prijave bit će otvorene od 01.03.2026. na: https://smash-homebrew.com.hr/Registration/index.php?section=register&go=entrant. Obrasci za ID boce MORAJU se ispisati iz registracijskog sustava. Prijave se zatvaraju 30.03.2026.
10. Rok za dostavu je 08.05.2026. Sve prijave moraju biti primljene do 15:00 CEST tog dana. Osobama s prebivalištem u Hrvatskoj neće biti dopušteno kašnjenje. Nema izuzetaka. Za osobe koje putuju s velike udaljenosti izvan zemlje kako bi prisustvovale natjecanju, mogu dobiti posebno dopuštenje za predaju svojih prijava dan prije natjecanja, 15.05.2026., do 20:00 CEST, ali moraju zatražiti dopuštenje unaprijed i dobiti odobrenje. Ako ne dobiju to odobrenje, njihove prijave neće biti obrađene. Da biste zatražili dopuštenje za kasniju dostavu, pošaljite nam e-poštu na smash.homebrew@gmail.com.
11. Na natjecanju neće biti prihvaćeno pivo koje je proizvela komercijalna pivovara. To uključuje male domaće pivovare koje prodaju svoja piva komercijalno, čak i u malim količinama. Nema izuzetaka.
12. Pivo je potrebno dostaviti u Tap B Craft Brewery & Brewpub, Ulica Dinka Šimunovića 14 21000 Split, Hrvatska do 08.05.2028. 15:00 CEST. Naknade se moraju platiti unaprijed ili neće biti prihvaćene.
13. Suci će ocjenjivati piva prema kategoriji u koju su prijavljena, prema smjernicama BJCP 2021. Dakle, ako je pivo izvan svog stila, nemojte se iznenaditi ako dobijete vrlo, vrlo nisku ocjenu čak i ako je pivo dobro.
14. Kotizacija za svaku prijavu iznosi 50 eura (50 €). Nijedna druga valuta neće biti prihvaćena. Kotizacija se može uplatiti na račun ili osobno, najkasnije do 07.04.2026. Sve neplaćene prijave bit će izbrisane nakon tog datuma i moguće je otvaranje novih registracija. Detalji za uplate će biti poslani e-mailom nakon registracije piva. Nema povrata novca!
15. Ovo natjecanje je registrirano kod BJCP-a i upisano je na njihov kalendar natjecanja te će slijediti taj stil ocjenjivanja. Mjere su uspostavljene kako bi se osiguralo pošteno i anonimno ocjenjivanje. Svi suci su prošli senzorsku obuku s Sensory Flavor Kitom ili su certificirani od strane BJCP-a. Suci ne mogu suditi u kategorijama u koje su prijavljeni. Ocjenjivat ćemo na slijepo. Suci neće znati čije pivo ocjenjuju, stoga se nemojte sramiti unijeti pivo o kojem trebate povratnu informaciju. Natjecanje je dobar način da dobijete kritiku o svom pivu koja vam može pomoći da se poboljšate kao pivar. Nitko neće znati za vaše rezultate osim ako im ne kažete.
16. Suci se mogu prijaviti na https://smash-homebrew.com.hr/Registration/index.php?section=register&go=judge od 01.03.2026. do 08.05.2026.
17. Natjecatelji mogu vidjeti svoje rezultate online neko vrijeme nakon natjecanja tako da se prijave na web stranicu natjecanja i pregledaju svoje unose. Nakon natjecanja, listovi s ocjenama će biti skenirani i poslani e-poštom svakom natjecatelju. Ovaj proces ipak traje neko vrijeme, stoga budite strpljivi. Može potrajati nekoliko tjedana.
18. Pobjednike će odabrati u finalnim krugovima najiskusniji suci. Sa svakog ocjenjivačkog stola najbolja piva se promiču u finalni krug. Tamo se ponovno ocjenjuju za konačne rezultate, ali bez ponovnog prilagođavanja rezultata u zapisnicima.
19. Medalje će se dodjeljivati za 1., 2. i 3. mjesto u kategoriji te plaketu za 1. mjesto. Bit će dodijeljene dodatne nagrade, ali imajte na umu da će nepokupljeni artikli biti otpremljeni samo o vašem trošku.
20. Sponzori i nagrade će biti objavljeni na društvenim medijima, instagram i facebook.
